Amid chaos, life constructs order.

The natural world seems to be marked more by chaos than ordered patterns, but, looking closely, there are hints at underlying regularities. One of the more surprising patterns is most visible in plants: the golden ratio. Its form becomes visible in sunflowers, dahlias, artichokes, cauliflower, pineapple, and pine-cones: it appears as spirals, one set clockwise and another counter-clockwise.
