The Night of the Nymphalids
The Night of the Nymphalids
Kim Money
CA$375.00

Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 1.5
Inspiration:: What originally was going to be a painting about flying insects and pattern became "The night of the Nymphalids", which is actually a type of butterfly. I like the nymph reference because to me the painting has a delicate but bold, dancing, feminine energy, like spirit nymphs, and also like butterflies.
Materials and Process:: Spray painting on the back of a stencil and then printing with it along with acrylic paint and paint pens.
Helix Drift
Helix Drift
Liz Hughes
CA$295.00

Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 1.5
Inspiration:: The spiral form in this piece reflects the natural patterns often found in the world around us - such as the rhythmic curves of a twisting shell or the repeated shaping of tide pools by wind and water. These patterns highlight the delicate balance in nature between motion and stillness, where flowing forces and quiet pauses coexist in harmony.
Materials and Process:: Mixed media: analog and digital collage, including my photography; acrylic paints and mediums; cold wax and oil.

Dimensions: 12 x 8
Inspiration:: When I kept chickens I found their eggs made a pleasing pattern in whatever basket or bowl I used to collect them.
Materials and Process:: Pastel and pastel pencil on Pastelmat
March of the Monarchs
March of the Monarchs
Kim Money
CA$375.00

Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 1.5
Inspiration:: I was playing with spray painting butterflies and thinking about pattern. I didn't want to depict a typical repetitive pattern but still have the whole painting come off as pattern or unsystematic pattern.
Materials and Process:: Spray paint, acrylic paint, stencils and collage
Concerto II
Concerto II
Monica Reekie
CA$300.00

Dimensions: 17 x 21 x 1.5
Inspiration:: Although the repeating shapes in the ceiling of 'Harpa', the Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavik, Iceland, don't change, the reflections and colors in the glass panels are constantly on the move. The time of day and whether clouds are in the sky or it's clear blue, will alter the appearance coming into the space from the outside and the reflection of the activity from indoors below also are ever changing, so every photograph taken captures something unique. A reflection of the escalator and its riders can be seen if one looks closely. The construction took over four years to complete and for many years was the only construction project in Iceland.
Materials and Process:: Photograph on Moab Slickrock metallic paper, limited edition - 1 of 3

CA$575.00

Dimensions: 24 x 24 x 1.5
Inspiration:: My inspiration for this piece is mid-century modern shapes along with the saying “A rising tide lifts all boats”. Here I’ve used pattern to create interest and movement within the piece.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on canvas.
Rear View Mirror
Rear View Mirror
Cindy McMath
CA$875.00

Dimensions: 30 x 30 x 1.5
Inspiration:: Rear View Mirror was created in response to the pandemic. The symbolism of the “rain/rainbows” in the rear view mirror shapes reflect the incredible tragedy of COVID-19 but reminds us that lessons were learned during this time we should not soon forget. Don’t go to work sick. The healing of the environment through less commuting. Don’t stand too close if you don’t need to. Etc. In this piece I’ve used pattern to created movement, and add symbolism.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on canvas

Tulips on Repeat II
Tulips on Repeat II
Anita Doornekamp
CA$320.00

Dimensions: 6 x 6 x 6
Inspiration:: We all recognize the shape of a tulip, a half-circle with a zig-zag top. It's not an accurate representation, but it’s a recognizable pattern. It is typically associated with the Netherlands, and I have a hard-wired affinity to all things tulip. At a distance, a field of tulips looks like ribbons of colour. As we look closer, we see clusters of flowers. Within each grouping, there are patterns upon patterns. Within each flower, the individual patterns reveal repeated details and elements. As buds open to reveal the individual petals, we notice slight variations. Each flower is mostly the same, creating a pattern that moves the eye through different levels of analysis. The really remarkable patterning in the flower is visible only to the pollinators who can perceive ultra-violet light. Those patterns signal nourishment, not just beauty. This two-part work depicts a garden of tulips on the long board, and a focus on the individual components of that garden on the cube.
Materials and Process:: Encaustic painting on wood

Urban Tides - Patterned Passages
Urban Tides - Patterned Passages
Edward Peck
CA$350.00

Dimensions: 22 x 28
Inspiration:: The inspiration for Urban Tides - Patterned Passage emerges from my fascination with patterns, both visible and structural, that define the city at night. Using digital collage to create the image emphasizes the structural patterns inherent in the cityscape, highlighting the tension and harmony between vibrant human activity and the underlying frameworks that shape the urban experience. The overlapping of layers furthers this investigation, allowing patterns to intersect, overlap, and merge, producing a tapestry where each element contributes to an overarching sense of ordered complexity. Light, color, and form are orchestrated to evoke movement similar to the ebb and flow of tides, reinforcing the rhythm of daily life within the city’s frameworks.
Materials and Process:: Pigment ink on cotton paper
Patterns in Light - Blooming Dreams
Patterns in Light - Blooming Dreams
Edward Peck
CA$350.00

Dimensions: 28 x 22
Inspiration:: Central to Patterns in Light - Blooming Dreams is the complex interplay of layered colors and textures. These patterns flow across the surface, transitioning between distinct floral shapes and abstract, almost hypnotic designs that encourage deeper contemplation. Each layer reveals fragments of repeated motifs - delicate spirals, flowing lines, and organic forms - that combine to create a rich tapestry. This visual layering uncovers hidden sequences and rhythmic repetitions that reflect the natural patterns found in flowers, petals, and foliage. The interplay of light and shadow emphasizes the relationship between visibility and concealment - a dance of patterns that shift and reconfigure as the eye moves across the piece.
Materials and Process:: Pigment ink on cotton
No Right Turn - the Patterned Divide
No Right Turn - the Patterned Divide
Edward Peck
CA$350.00

Dimensions: 28 x 22
Inspiration:: No Right Turn - The Patterned Divide explores the coexistence and subtle tensions between urban life and the natural world through a fusion of imagery. Layering highlights the interplay of patterns that emerge from both environments. The geometric rhythms of the city, formed by architectural lines, street signage, and the flow of human activity, contrast with and harmonize alongside the organic, fractal complexity of bare branches. Within this dialogue, pareidolia gently surfaces; the branches suggest intricate networks akin to veins or urban schematics, prompting deeper emotional and intellectual engagement. This patterned divide blurs boundaries, revealing the subtle connections between the structured grid of city life and the unpredictable rhythms found in nature.
Materials and Process:: Pigment ink on cotton
